Christopher Humphrey Hartney

Christopher Humphrey Hartney is a poet and scholar who lives in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. He is Senior Lecturer and Chair of Studies in Religion at the University of Sydney. Here he teaches courses on religion and literature, apocalyptic violence, sacred creativity, and religious innovation. He has over 50 peer-reviewed articles to his name, has overseen the publication of 12 volumes of scholarship and edited several academic journals. His research specialty concerns the new religions of Asia. In 2023 he published How Heaven Operates, a translation and commentary on a series of mystical visions of heaven - the Vietnamese equivalent of Dante’s Divine Comedy.
